Karon Johnson 

Board Secretary 

Karon Johnson is a dedicated Research Associate at Johns Hopkins University. She specializes in nurturing social-emotional learning and restorative initiatives within the dynamic landscape of high school education. During her impressive fifteen-year career as an esteemed educator within the Prince George's Public School System, Karon has imparted her passion for dance and health education to countless students.

 

Her impact within secondary education is profound. She has meticulously crafted curricula that blend health and dance-related subjects. Not merely content with traditional roles, Karon has assumed pivotal positions as a School-Based Equity Lead, Engagement Technology Leader, PBIS co-coordinator, and mentor as a vibrant dance director and dance team coach.

 

Karon's unique approach to education, deeply rooted in principles of social justice, is a testament to her unwavering commitment to promoting social-emotional learning, holistic wellness, and the building of inclusive communities through the arts. Her work is about imparting knowledge and empowering her students through every lesson and interaction.

 

Karon's academic achievements are a testament to her dedication to scholarly discourse and knowledge dissemination. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Towson University and has further augmented her knowledge with a Master of Education degree in Educational Technology from Loyola University. Her expertise is theoretical and practical, as she has shared her knowledge through educational blogs for Loyola University.

 

Currently, Karon serves as the resident choreographer for The Washington Performing Arts, Children of the Gospel Choir, where she mentors students from 5th through 12th grade and encourages them to explore their creative boundaries through movement.

 

Looking towards the future, Karon is poised to continue her impactful research journey, delving deeper into social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and community building through a social justice lens, all while infusing her work with the transformative power of art. Her illustrious career is punctuated by a timeline brimming with awards and recognitions for her innovative choreography, captivating performances, and transformative pedagogical practices across the DMV area.
